About You

Older Athletes

Sprinting and being athletic through your 40s and 50s and beyond comes with unique challenges.

Through the last decade I have built and pushed my body to the edge of it’s capability and learnt through hard nosed experience. I’ve loved every minute but there have been pitfalls and obstacles along the way that I’ve had to overcome.

As older athletes, we are also juggling a variety of balls in the game of life and some of those carry incredible responsibility and weight… sometimes fitting training in amidst that backdrop can seem selfish and just unattainable.

If you are over 40 and considering adding athletic endeavor to your life … or perhaps have tried to return or don’t know how to then I’d love to hear from you.

Young Athletes (12 & under)

I agree with the view that there is no such thing as an elite 12 year old athlete.

The beginning of an athletic life is about :

  • Foundations

  • Variety

  • Good habits

  • Fun

  • Learning how to win

  • Learning how to lose

  • Learning mastery

  • Understanding what doing your best really means

  • Learning to respect your sport and your fellow competitors

  • Feeling what it’s like to play alongside someone who plays with spirit

  • Ingraining a sense of playing your best but fair

When working with young athletes we will build the core foundations and the necessary skills and drills. Just as importantly I will be looking to develop their love of athletic movement, a desire for improvement and their respect for competition.

Being a great athlete is the ultimate preparation for a life where things don’t always go to plan and there are challenges one must face.

Youth Athletes (Mid Teens - 20’s)

Youth athletes from their mid teens and through their 20s face a myriad of opportunities and challenges

  • How do I balance training and school?

  • How do I choose what sport I should concentrate on?

  • How do I fit in a part time job?

  • How do I ensure quality study time and training time – can I do both?

  • Where does time with my friends fit?

  • What event should I focus on this season?

  • What aspect of training should I prioritise?

  • Can I have a career outside of sport and still be an elite athlete?

If you are a youth athlete who is looking for a coach who will develop your capabilities and set your program but at the same time help you fit athletic development into a fulfilling life then I would love to hear from you.

Sometimes support and advice is needed to overcome a specific challenge or phase through this period. Whether it is help to break through or whether it is ongoing training support I will meet you where you are at.

400m Athletes

Everyone who has competed in a 400m race knows that it is a beast.

No matter how good you are, your level of preparation, your state of mind and body … the 400m will test who are you and find any weakness.

After a decade of competing in fifteen to twenty 400 events each season I am still learning but always from a position of love and respect for the event.

I have read and tried almost everything that has been written about training and competing in the 400 and still looking for new insight … as I said it’s a beast.

There is an abundance of coaching knowledge and material available for 400m athletes who run 44-51 seconds. For young and mature athletes running 52 seconds and above there are a number of aspects to a training program that require a different approach.

The demands of sprinting for 60 seconds are much different physiologically than those of sprinting for 44 seconds.. It is in this space where I can share my knowledge gained through a decade of experience and progress.

If you are a 400m competitor and would like to discuss your program, race model, goals, mindset, habits or challenges then I would love to connect and help you tame the beast.

My goal is to run my fastest ever 400m as I approach 60 or in my early 60s … what’s yours ?
