As someone who has got more athletic through their 50’s I can speak with the lived experience of knowing it is possible.
As an older athlete there are some things that you need to do differently. Some of these things are small and subtle but they make all the difference.
As older athletes we all come with years of inherent existing injuries and limitations. Working with these limitations takes a different mindset and approach … care is needed but progress and transformation is possible.
As a sprinter, I am constantly amazed by the comments I receive from people (who know me well) that assume I jog or run marathons. I can chat to someone about my sprinting and some time later they will ask how my marathon running is going !!
As we age we are programmed to think that we should slow down. My lived experience over the last decade is that as we age our bodies love to move well, feel athletic and express power and speed.
Above all, even just one short sprint is a gateway to another universe. Your mind is free of daily concerns and all that matters is feeling the moment. It’s an incredible feeling and a reminder of the remarkable capabilities of the human body, no matter one’s age.
