Athlete Development for Track and Sport
As your track coach my approach will be to listen to your needs, assess your capabilities and develop a program tailored to help you consolidate and then make improvements.
In the initial phase I will seek to understand your capabilities across : the start, driving out, acceleration mechanics, top speed, speed endurance and then align with your goals to develop your tailored program.
Track and field is a demanding pursuit and is much more than acquiring skills. It also means learning how to be an athlete. My approach will be holistic and will also give due attention to developing your adaptive skills, habits away from the track and efficiency of preparation amidst the other priorities in your life.
A good track training program should give you confidence in all aspects of your life. A good track program should also move in sync with the heartbeat of your other responsibilities and aspirations.
My experiences and knowledge would be particularly relevant for:
Those who are thinking of beginning athletics or are new to the sport and want to get started in the right way in terms of physical preparation, skills and mindset … no matter the age
Established athletes who are experiencing a period of stagnation or doubt and looking for assistance in re-establishing their approach
Established athletes looking to improve a particular aspect of their program. This will vary depending on the individual but could include: off season planning, event specific considerations, competitive mindset preparation, in season program adjustments … this may be a series of conversations to help you unpack your best solution and way forward
Busy people who are juggling other responsibilities but want to put their best self into their athletic development and training
Athletic development interactions could be as coach or consultant. You may need coaching assistance for a short or longer period or perhaps you just need someone to discuss and fine tune your own ideas over a series of conversations. The approach will be defined by your needs.
